Grants

$38,000 from NTIA/PTFP

In 1983, I wrote the technical portion of a grant application for a proposed community radio station.

The funding agency was the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program (PTFP), through the National Telecommunications and Information Agency (NTIA).

The radio station was KDNK-FM of Carbondale, Colorado.

The writing

  • Successfully described the proposed operation, despite the difficulty of predicting coverage in a mountainous region
  • Established the legitimacy of the project
  • Was also used for the Station License and Frequency Allocation Application to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The NTIA/PTFP granted the full amount requested, which covered the station construction costs.

The FCC approved the station license. The FCC certifiying engineer called us on the phone and complimented us on the technical portion of the application.

KDNK-FM is on the air today.
